Romania is a historic country with a rich heritage and deep roots located in Europe. It’s a member of the EU and attracts millions of visitors every year for work, study, and tourism. If you're planning on visiting Romania, you may need to apply for a visa first.
There are many applicants who need to obtain a visa to Romania prior to their arrival in the country. The type of visa you need to apply for depends on your nationality, the purpose, and the duration of your stay. However, citizens of countries such as the EEA (European Economic Area), Switzerland, and other countries with biometric visas, do not need a visa to enter Romania and can stay for up to 90 days.
A Romanian visa is valid for both single and multiple entries for no more than 90 days in any 180-day period. However, the maximum period of stay cannot exceed the number of days specified on your visa.
Romania visa types
There are four types of Romanian visas, each with its own requirements and restrictions. These types include:
Airport transit visa (Type A)
Transit visa (Type B)

Romania visa requirements
Applicants who wish to obtain a Romanian visa will need to consider with priority the following documents when applying for a visa to Romania.
Passport
A passport valid for at least 3 months after your departure date
Personal photos
The Romanian visa application requires two colored photographs. They must be the standard passport size of 3.5 x 4.5 cm
Application form
All applicants need to accurately complete the visa application form in order for their application to be processed.
Proof of itinerary
This could include an invitation letter, travel plans, hotel reservation as well as return/onward ticket
Medical insurance
Applicants must show proof of valid health insurance that covers at least €30,000 for medical emergencies
Financial means
Applicants must show that they can support themselves financially for the duration of their stay in Romania.
Applicants should also note that additional documents may be required depending on the visa type they are applying to.

Applying for a Romania Visa comes in two ways, either online or by applying at the designated embassy in person.

- Fill out the visa application form online
• Visit the Romania visa portal website and sign up with your email
• Fill out the form and attach the required documents
• Supporting documents must be translated into Romanian or English by an authorized translator - Submit your visa application
• After the submission, you will get a confirmation email which must be printed out
- Pay your visa fees
• The applicant will be redirected to make a payment with a credit or debit card
• After successful payment, the applicant will receive a confirmation for the paid visa fee which must be printed out - Wait for the visa results
• You will be notified by email or phone about the results of your visa application

• Download, print, and fill out your application form - Submit your application
Send your application file which contains the application form and the supporting documents, to the diplomatic mission/consular post of your choice
- Schedule an appointment
You can schedule an appointment to present yourself at the diplomatic mission/consular post
- Pay your visa fee
• After successful submission, you may be granted an appointment at the Consular (if successful) Affairs office to make your payment
• Applicants must also note that fees for Types A, B, and C are €80, while Type D costs €120
Where to apply for Romania visa
Applicants can submit their visa applications to the nearest Romanian embassy or consulate. However, some nationalities can submit their applications online through the e-Visa portal. Not all nationals are eligible to apply for an e-Visa.
It’s important to note that applications for Romanian visas from citizens of some countries are handled by the National Visa Center, a special section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Romania visa processing time
Applications for a short-stay visa should be made at least two weeks before the intended departure date. Application for a long-stay visa should be made at least 45 days before the intended travel date.
When applications are filed just a few days before the intended day of travel, the issuance of visas is not guaranteed.
