The country is situated in the Caucasus region in Eurasia. The nation’s most important regions are Tbilisi, Kvemo Kartli and Imereti. Georgia has a surface area of 69,700 square kilometers. Making it is one of the smaller countries in Asia. Georgia is mostly mountainous with lowlands near the Black Sea. Its climate is warm and temperate.

The overall population is over 4 million people. The capital of the country is Tbilisi, which is also the most populous city with 1.1 million inhabitants. Other major cities are Batumi and Kutaisi. The largest airport is Shota Rustaveli Tbilisi International Airport (TBS) with 3.6 million yearly passengers. The second largest is Kutaisi International Airport (KUT) with 870,000 yearly passengers. Tbilisi airport has excellent flight connections to the entire European Union and Middle East.

Georgian culture has evolved over the course of the history of the country. The main religion is the Orthodox belief. The official language is Georgian. The legal system is the civil law. The government type is a semi presidential republic. The chief of state is the elected President Salome Zourabichvili and the head of government is Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili. The elections take place every 4 years and the president is elected indirectly by the College of Electors.

The official currency of the country is the Georgian Lari (GEL) with the current exchange rate being GEL 2.68 to the USD. The country has an open economy, generating a GDP of approximately $46 billion. Its citizens have a per capita income of $12,409. The GDP is mostly made up of 2 key sectors, which are services and agriculture. Georgia is famous for its wine, which is one of the biggest export products. Additionally, citrus fruits, hazelnuts, manganese and gold are important contributors to the economy. The GDP has grown steadily in the past years with yearly growth rates over 4%.

Georgia is filled with a variety of urban and natural tourism destinations and attractions. It is known for its picturesque medieval historic sites and different cultural facets. It has 3 UNESCO world heritage sites. Some of the major destinations include the capital Tbilisi, the Tusheti National Park, Borjomi, Gudauri and Batumi. The nation has a total of approximately 9.3 million tourists visiting every year. Most tourists originate from Europe, Russia and its surrounding countries.
