Georgia and Peru sign visa exemption agreement
On September 18, 2023, an important agreement on visa-free travel was signed between Georgia and the Republic of Peru. The signing took place during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru, Ana Cecilia Gervasi, came together to strengthen diplomatic ties.
This significant agreement not only enhances diplomatic relations but also has a noteworthy impact on passport access. The Georgian passport, currently ranked 45th on the Guide Passport Index, provides visa-free access to 124 countries. With the addition of Peru to the list of Georgia passport visa-free countries, Georgian passport holders will enjoy access to 125 destinations, advancing their passport ranking to the 44th place.
Likewise, the Peruvian passport ranking, currently standing at 36th on the Guide Passport Index with access to 139 visa-free destinations, will increase to 140 after the implementation of this agreement. This expansion marks a considerable milestone for both nations, opening doors to increased travel opportunities for their citizens.
During their meeting, the ministers discussed a wide range of bilateral and multilateral issues and explored future possibilities for collaboration. They emphasized the significance of high-level visits and expressed a shared commitment to deepening cooperation in various domains, including politics, trade, economics, culture, and education.
Ilia Darchiashvili, in particular, underscored Georgia’s keen interest in expanding its cooperation with Latin American countries, highlighting the potential benefits such collaboration could bring to Georgia.
Both sides pledged to actively engage in the advancement of bilateral cooperation across numerous sectors. Notably, they discussed Georgia’s successful reforms in public services, which they plan to share as part of their collaborative efforts.
This agreement marks a positive step toward strengthening relations between Georgia and Peru, opening up new avenues for cooperation and exchange between the two nations.
