Indonesia prepares to roll out Golden visa program

The Indonesian government has revealed its plans to introduce a golden visa program aimed at attracting talented individuals and entrepreneurs to contribute to the country’s economic growth. The announcement was made by Sandiaga Uno, Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, following a meeting between President Sandiaga Ono and his government ministers on Monday, May 29, 2023, at the Merdeka Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital.

According to Minister Sandiaga Uno, the golden visa program is a forthcoming initiative that seeks to attract skilled professionals in fields such as digitalization, health, research, and technology. The program is expected to offer a stay duration of 5 to 10 years and will cater to various categories of applicants, including digital nomads as well as digital entrepreneurs.

Reports suggest that holders of the Indonesia Golden Visa will enjoy a range of privileges not available with traditional Indonesia Visas. These benefits may include streamlined application and processing procedures, multiple-entry permits, extended stays, the ability to own real estate in Indonesia, and even a potential pathway to Indonesian citizenship. The Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Indonesia will be responsible for formulating the regulations governing the golden visa policy.

It is worth noting that Indonesia previously launched the second home visa program a few months ago, allowing foreigners to reside in the country for up to 5 or 10 years in exchange for maintaining a designated sum, approximately $130,000, in an Indonesian bank account.

With the introduction of these initiatives, the Indonesian government aims to attract increased investment, generate more employment opportunities, and position Indonesia as a global economic hub.
